But glowing up isn’t just for the outside. It may even be more important to focus on the inside for a full transformation. Focussing on your mental health and mindset is essential for living a better and happier life. So what should you focus on?
You probably already know this and have read it on many other sites, but meditation is one of the best ways to improve your mindset and create space in your mind for growth. Meditating is simple, but it’s not easy to do it every day. Start by simply making it a habit – tell yourself that you’ll meditate for five short minutes every day. Don’t miss a day!
If you struggle with just sitting there in silence, I suggest trying out one of the many available guided meditations on YouTube. I’ve been meditating daily for a while and I still love using these.
I truly believe that therapy can be beneficial for everybody. You don’t need to be at your lowest to reach out for help. It took me a while to finally take the step to start talking to my therapist, and I was indeed at a very low point. But talking to her uncovered a lot of past traumas that I wasn’t aware of.
While the main “issues” that initially caused me to reach out are pretty much solved, I am very happy to keep going to therapy to help me through these traumas. So many things suddenly fall into place now I have a safe space to work through these emotions and events.
It’s helped me understand my emotions and behaviour a lot better, and treat myself with a lot more compassion.
Read Books About Spirituality
Starting a journal is another great way to quiet the mind, organize your thoughts, and get to know yourself better. Journaling is known to relieve stress, improve your memory, and give you time to reflect on your life. Simply buy a notebook (or download a journaling app like Notion and Day One), set a time every day to spend a few minutes writing, and stick to it!
You can write about ANYTHING. About what you did that day, what you’re thinking, what you’re feeling, ideas for the future, etc. Alternatively, you can use journaling prompts to explore your thoughts and give yourself the opportunity to get to know your inner self.
Declutter Your Social Media
While Social Media can be used as an amazing tool to meet like-minded people, teach you, and inspire you, it can also be a source of unhappiness. Especially when your timeline and the content you consume impact you negatively and/or fill you with jealousy or feeling like you’re not good enough.
Remember YOU are in control of what content you consume. Take back that control by unfollowing/blocking any account that doesn’t vibe with you anymore or spark negative emotions. Only allow content on your timeline that motivate you and make you feel happy/alive.
Another big one for me was deleting most social media apps off my phone and turning off notifications for those I kept. Time spent scrolling on Twitter or TikTok can be used so much better!
Say Daily Affirmations
Start saying daily affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that help with positive thinking and self-empowerment. For example “I am amazing”, “The universe is out to do me good”, “My friends love me and like spending time with me”, “I am exactly where I need to be”, and “Money flows to me easily”.
Try to pick a few that resonate with you and say them (out loud) every day. Even if you don’t believe them yet, keep at it. Your brain doesn’t really know the difference between a lie and a truth – by repeating these statements to yourself, you’ll start to believe them in time. I know it sounds crazy, but I have seen insane improvements in my life and the way I look at the world since starting doing this.

Whether we like it or not, money and finances are part of our lives. Unless you want to cut yourself off from modern life and go live on a mountain with a tiny self-sufficient farm, ya gonna need the dough.
Being financially educated and secure is not about hoarding money or taking advantage of others while making money, it’s about creating freedom and taking away the worries that are often paid with money. So how do we glow this up?
Know Where You Stand
The first (and often most scary) step to taking control of your financial situation is figuring out where you stand. How are you doing financially? Take some time to calculate your net worth (all the money and investments you have – your debt).
Do you have any credit card debt that is causing sleepless nights? Are you always surprised that there’s a bit of month left at the end of your money and aren’t sure where it’s going? Do you have any idea of how much savings/investments you actually have?

Track Your Finances & Budget
One of the easiest ways to become more aware of your financial situation and habits is by tracking where your money goes. Promise yourself to write down every single pound/dollar/euro you spend for the next month. Where does it go? How much do you save? How much do you invest?
Once you know where your money goes, you can start to make changes.
- Are there any subscriptions you can cancel?
- Are there other parts where you can save money?
- Can you negotiate any fixed charges like insurance and your electricity bill?
Then, make a budget. How much money do you want to spend on groceries each month? How much goes towards rent and other fixed bills? How much goes towards treating yourself and eating out? How much goes towards your saving/investing account?
Try this for a few months and adjust accordingly.
Set Financial Goals
Once you know where you stand and have started your budget, you can start to make some goals. Which goals could become a reality with some money? Examples include:
- Save for a wedding
- Save for a big holiday
- Buy a house/apartment
- Buy a rental property
- Invest £100.000 in the stock market
Dream big and write them down. Make a plan on how you can achieve it by breaking it down over months. If you want to buy a house, how much do you need to put aside every month to get your deposit over the next two years? How much do you need to invest every month for your net worth to reach $100.000? Plan and adjust where needed after trying it for a few weeks!

Did you know that the average millionaire has seven income streams? Even if becoming a millionaire isn’t your end-goal, it’s not safe to rely on one income stream. I think that 2020 has shown us all how quickly things can change, so creating financial security for yourself is important. You cannot rely on an employer to take care of you!
